A few things this table makes clear:

E6000 Plus on sealed or painted wood behaves more like a non-porous surface and benefits from the full 72-hour cure. On raw, unfinished wood, 24 hours is usually sufficient — the porosity helps accelerate the curing process.

Fusion Tack's 72-hour cure is consistent across all surfaces. Its waterproof resistance isn't fully activated until the complete cure cycle — give it the time it needs.

The Loctite cyanoacrylates fixture in 30 seconds, but the 411's high viscosity means it won't run into wood grain uncontrollably. That's a specific advantage on wood that lower-viscosity CAs don't offer.

BSI Slow-Cure and CG500 are the epoxy options — both require mixing, both deliver the highest available strength, and both benefit from clean, dry, unsealed wood for maximum penetration and bond quality.


A Few Things That Apply to All of Them

Know your wood surface before you glue. Raw, unfinished wood is the most adhesive-friendly — its porosity creates excellent mechanical bonding. Sealed, painted, varnished, or waxed wood is more like a non-porous surface, and adhesives bond to the finish rather than to the wood itself. The bond is only as strong as what it's sticking to — if the finish can peel, so can the rhinestones.

Sand lightly where possible. A fine-grit scuff on sealed or painted wood gives adhesives more surface area to grip. Wipe away sanding dust completely with a dry cloth, then clean with isopropyl alcohol before application.

Keep wood dry during application. Wood absorbs moisture from the environment, and excessive moisture at the surface can interfere with adhesive bonding — particularly with epoxies. Work in a dry environment and let the wood fully acclimatize to room temperature before starting.

For outdoor wood projects, choose an adhesive formulated for weather resistance. Wood expands in humidity and contracts in dry conditions — sometimes significantly. An adhesive that can't flex with those movements will eventually fail at the bond line, no matter how strong it tested on day one.

Watch for adhesive soak-through on very porous or raw wood. Thin, low-viscosity adhesives can absorb too deeply into open-grain wood and create a "starved joint" — a bond where most of the adhesive has soaked into the substrate and left little adhesive at the actual stone contact point. Higher-viscosity adhesives like Loctite 411, Magna-Tac, or two-part epoxies are better choices for very porous wood.
